CrossFit Games 2022 Day 1: results and leaderboard
The CrossFit Games have wrapped up Day 1 which had its share of twists and turns, including an event postponement that meant no rest day for the athletes.
Day 1 of the 2022 CrossFit Games is over, and some drama occurred involving lap-counting and a rainstorm.
The competition in Madison, Wisconsin got off to a troubled start, with some problems with counting the laps that the athletes had completed in Event One called “Bike to Work”. The matter was eventually clarified, but the confusion was followed by a rainstorm that caused Event Two- which involves outdoor running- to be postponed to Aug.4. This day had been originally scheduled to be the competitors’ rest day.
The athletes then proceeded directly to Event 3, the Skill Speed Medley, composed of races through pegboards, jump ropes, pistols and handstand walks. Event 4, dubbed “Elizabeth Elevated” had the athletes performing squat cleans and dips with parallel bar traverses.
All eyes were on five-time champion Tia-Clair Toomey, who landed in eighth place at the end of the day. She finished second in Event 1, then shockingly failed to make it past the first round in Event 3, where she ended in 23rd place. She did better in Event 4, where she finished in the number nine spot.
Two people have withdrawn from the competition so far- Emily Rolfe from Individual Women, and Tom Muhlbeier from Men 65+.
