Boxing fans are eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated showdown between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia. Considered to be two of the most promising fighters in the sport today, their upcoming fight promises to be a showcase of power and skill and then there is the cash.

Though there have been varying amounts reported, what we can generally assume to be true is that Davis is guaranteed a cool $5 million, while Garcia is set to earn about half of that with his purse guaranteed at $2.5 million. Of course, those figures - significant though they may be - do not factor in the 50-50 split that was agreed for the pay-per-view revenue earned for the fight. At a cost of $85 a pop you can bet that these boys are going to be ‘making bank’ by the end of the night.
Consider for a moment that if a million people buy at the above mentioned price, that’s $85 million to split between the two fighters evenly. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also ticket sales revenue which could see both men earning in the realm of $15-20 million from sales. This is all to say that whether we go with the more conservative 500k buys for pay-per-view which would see each fighter taking home $21,250,000 or the aforementioned one million, this is set to be a major payday for both fighters involved.
Do Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia have a bet?
It’s been reported that Davis and Garcia actually made a bet in which they staked their purses entirely. What that would mean is that this fight is quite literally a winner-takes-all situation. On the other hand, there has been no word on whether that verbal agreement is legally binding. That’s to say, we’re not exactly sure how such a wager would look in practice, or whether this is simply a stunt by both men to increase the hype around the bout. Needless to say, the anticipation for this one is now at fever pitch and rightly so.
