History was made on Friday night in women’s boxing, and the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York provided the perfect stage.

The long-awaited trilogy between Amanda Serrano (47-4-1, 31 KOs) and Katie Taylor (25-1-0, 6 KOs) reached its emotional peak, with the Irish champion emerging victorious to retain her undisputed light-welterweight title.

Taylor victorious in knife-edge bout in Big Apple

Taylor won by majority decision, with two judges scoring the bout 97-93 in her favor, while the third had it even at 95-95.

The fight was razor-close. Both fighters landed exactly 70 punches, but Taylor held a slight edge in power shots, 57-49. Serrano, meanwhile, led in jabs, 21-13.

A record-breaking night at the Garden

This rivalry is widely considered the greatest in women’s boxing history, and Friday’s card broke a Guinness World Record for the most championship belts contested in a single event - 17 in total.

A legendary boxing rivalry

The trilogy was set in motion after Taylor and Serrano’s thrilling rematch last November in Arlington, Texas. Friday’s bout, again streamed live on Netflix and promoted by Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, was part of an all-women’s card.

In the second fight, Taylor won by unanimous decision, retaining her WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO light-welterweight titles and solidifying her status as the undisputed champion. All three judges scored it 95-94 in favor of Taylor.

Despite suffering a cut above her eye from an accidental headbutt, Serrano fought through the injury with grit and determination, earning the crowd’s admiration at AT&T Stadium, where fans overwhelmingly backed the Puerto Rican fighter.

The first chapter of this legendary rivalry took place in April 2022, when Taylor defeated Serrano in a historic bout - the first women’s boxing match to headline Madison Square Garden.
