Golf enthusiasts, get ready to tee off at the 123rd U.S. Open next week at the prestigious North Course of the Los Angeles Country Club. It looks like George Thomas’ layout at the historic club is finally getting a big break with the major event. The USGA has been there before, but it’s like the main act finally taking the stage this time. LACC has quite an impressive hosting resume, having entertained the 1930 U.S. Women’s Amateur, the 1954 U.S. Junior, and the 2017 Walker Cup.

The 2023 U.S. Open is in full swing, with over 100 local qualifiers vying for a chance to compete in the national championship. The USGA is now hosting 10 36-hole Final Qualifying events in the U.S. and Canada, with 45 spots up for grabs. It’s like the Hunger Games but with golf clubs instead of bows and arrows.

But how do golfers qualify for the U.S. Open?

Looks like LACC is going to be the hottest spot in town, with 103 golfers vying for the top spot and Matt Fitzpatrick defending his championship title like a boss. Some golfers are about to get a free pass to the green with the top-60 point leaders and their buddies from the World Ranking. June 12th can’t come soon enough! Ah, the classic tale of the underdog golfer who fights their way through local and final qualifying to earn a coveted spot in the championship. It’s like the Olympics but with more plaid pants.

Golfers across North America had 109 chances to prove their skills on 18-hole courses during local qualifiers from mid-April to late May. Golfers who made the cut then had the privilege of playing in one of the lucky 13 final qualifiers, spread across the globe like sprinkles on a sundae. Looks like June 5th is going to be a busy day for tennis fans in the U.S., with nine out of ten matches scheduled. And if that’s not enough, there’s an extra American qualifier on May 22nd to keep you on your toes!
