2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont full field: Major champions, amateurs, former winners, top players...
Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy lead a star-studded field, with one player hoping to follow the Irishman in completing a career Grand Slam.

The 2025 PGA Championship, won by Scottie Scheffler, may still be fresh in the mind, but it’s almost time for the third major of the season in men’s golf. Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania will host the U.S. Open for a record 10th time, with Scheffler again expected to do battle with Rory McIlroy from Thursday, June 12 to Sunday, June 15.
The world No. 1 goes into the tournament in red-hot form, having won three of his last four events. He finished in a tie for fourth in the other.
But the U.S. Open is, of course, one of two majors Scheffler has yet to win, with his three victories so far coming at the Masters, twice, in addition to the PGA Championship.

McIlroy, meanwhile, has had his hands on the trophy…but not for a while. The Northern Irishman triumphed in the 2011 tournament at Congressional but has yet to repeat, despite a number of near misses.

11 previous U.S. Open winners
McIlroy is one of 11 former U.S. Open champions in the 156-player field. LIV Golf duo Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka are looking to win the tournament for a third time, while Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick, Jon Rahm, Gary Woodland, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose and Lucas Glover are all chasing second victories.
Which player could complete the career Grand Slam at Oakmont?
Additionally, there are a number of other major winners who, like Scheffler, are hoping to add the U.S. Open to their list of successes. Jason Day, Brian Harman, Shane Lowry, Hideski Matsuyama, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Reid, Xander Schauffele, Adam Scott, Cam Smith and Justin Thomas all fall into that particular category.

As does one veteran, who could become the second player this year, after McIlroy, to complete the career “Grand Slam”. Phil Mickelson won the first of his six majors at the Masters back in 2004 but has six runner-up finishes in the U.S. Open, the last of which was in 2013. Few will back the 54-year-old to complete the set at Oakmont…but who thought he’d win the PGA Championship in 2021?
Big names chase maiden major
Ludvig Aberg, Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrell Hatton, Viktor Hovland, Joaquin Niemann and Sahith Theegala are the big-name and highly-ranked stars hoping to clinch their maiden major championships.
