The 2022 Stanley Cup Finals are the third year in a row that the Tampa Bay Lightning have made it to the big show, and if they can win it this year, it will be the first time in over 30 years that a team has won three in a row, establishing the Bolts as a true hockey dynasty.

The Lightning have made a total of four appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals, winning three of them. Back in 2004, they made their first appearance in the Cup, facing off against the Calgary Flames, where the Bolts took it in seven games.

They made it to the finals in 2015, where they lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in six, but then made amends by winning the 2020 and 2021 back-to-back.

In 2020, they beat the Dallas Stars in six games, including a thrilling double-overtime game five. They followed up this performance with a five-game trouncing of the Montreal Canadiens in 2021, setting the stage for this year’s contest.

If they can pull off the victory against the Colorado Avalanche, the Lightning will become the first team to win three in a row since the New York Islanders dominant four-in-a-row run in the 1980s.

But whether they win or not, there is an argument to be made that the Lightning may be a historic team already. With their dominant defending, Tampa Bay have shut down the two top offenses in these playoffs already. The Avalanche may have the edge already, being one game up, but their offensive skills will be stretched to their limits by this Lightning team.
