Update:

If you’re playing fantasy golf on the Masters app, you’ll have to do some calculating to answer the tiebreaker question:

How many total putts will be recorded by the field for the entire tournament?

It’s a tough one, because it depends on so many different factors, like weather, speed of greens, etc. We all know that greens are lightning fast at Augusta National, but that adds another factor into the equation because how many times do players have to go up and down when not making a green in regulation? Anyhow, let’s look at the data.

This year there are 91 players in the field. So, we can assume on Thursday and Friday 91 players will play 36 holes: 91 x 36 = 3,276. Now the tough part. How many putts on each hole? For example, in 2024, Scottie Scheffler had 114 putts in the four days of his Masters victory. That comes out to 1.58 putts per hole. That is very close to the PGA Tour average of 1.59.

Now we have our Thursday and Friday total: 1.59 putts per hole multiplied by 3,276 holes (36 holes played by 91 players) = 5209 putts.

We’ve made it to the weekend, the cut allows for 50 players and ties. In 2024 60 players made the cut while 53 made it in 2025. Previous years were 52, 53, 54, which comes out to an average of 54.4, so let’s use 54 players to make the cut.

Now we have 54 players playing on Saturday and Sunday, so 54 players x 36 holes = 1944 holes over the weekend at 1.59 putts per holes = 3091 total putts on the weekend.

How many total putts will there be at the 2026 Masters?

Our (far from scientific) estimate comes out to 5209 putts on Thursday and Friday and 3091 on Saturday and Sunday. That comes out to a grand total of 8,300.

Estimates from 2025 are between 8,500 and 9,400 (no specific data is released and there were 95 player in the field). FYI, for my Masters fantasy golf app question I used 8,200 for the tiebreaker. Feel free to make any alterations to that “formula,” which didn’t factor in WDs or any other event that could alter how many putts players will need at the 2026 Masters. Good luck!
