Until a little over two months ago, Xander Schauffele was seen by some to be the best current golfer never to have won a major championship. Now, he has two to his name after following up his PGA Championship victory at Valhalla in May by winning the 2024 British Open at Royal Troon.

Billy Horschel was at the top of an incredibly tight leaderboard at the end of Saturday’s third round, but Schauffele stretched away from the field on the back nine on Sunday.

The 30-year-old fired a final-round 65 to win by two shots from Justin Rose, with the challenges of Horschel, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Thriston Lawrence fading.

How much did Xander Schauffele win at the 2024 British Open?

As a result of his victory, Schauffele is $3.1 million better off than he was on Sunday morning. The prize purse for the 2024 Open Championship was slightly up from last year, when 2023 winner Brian Harman took home $3 million.

Ahead of this week’s tournament, the Californian was second on the PGA Tour Money list for 2024, behind runaway leader Scheffler, who has six victories to his name.

How much has Schauffele earned in 2024?

Schauffele can add this week’s prize money to the $12,767,160 that he had already earned this year, which will take him further clear of third-place Rory McIlroy, who started the tournament on $10,353,190 but missed the cut.

The PGA Tour will confirm the exact amount in the coming hours, although it will be somewhere in the region of $15.8 million.

For context, Scheffler had made a whopping $27,696,858 before teeing off at Troon, which means there is no chance of him being caught, no matter what happens between now and the end of the season.
