Hideki Matsuyama made PGA Tour history this weekend, on his way to winning The Sentry ahead of Collin Morikawa.
Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama pocketed a significant chunk of the $20 million prize purse at The Sentry 2025 in Hawaii this weekend, as the 32-year-old broke a PGA Tour record to win the season’s opening event.
What PGA Tour record did Matsuyama break?
Matsuyama secured victory on Sunday with a final-round 65, as he finished up on 35 under par on the Kapalua Resort’s Plantation Course. His score is the lowest to par for a 72-hole PGA Tour event, surpassing Cameron Smith’s 2022 record of 34 under, a mark also set during The Sentry at Kapalua.
Runner-up at the event in 2017, Matsuyama won by three strokes, ahead of the US’s Collin Morikawa. South Korea’s Sungjae Im took third place.
How much prize money did Matsuayama win?
In addition to netting 700 FedEx points, Matsuyama will take home a $3.6 million prize check. Morikawa earns $2.16 million and 400 FedEx points, while Im gets $1.36 million and 350 points.

What’s the next event on the 2025 PGA Tour calendar?
The second event of the 2025 PGA Tour season also takes place on Hawaii. Honolulu’s Waialae Country Club is the venue for the Sony Open, which runs from Thursday January 9 to Sunday January 12.
There will be an $8.7 million prize purse at Waialae Country Club, with $1.56 million going to the winner.
