The final event of the PGA Tour season is being held at Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina. This presents an opportunity for players outside the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings to earn a spot in the first of three season-ending tournaments, next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship. For some players, it’s a chance to build momentum for the Tour Championship at East Lake, which marks the end of the season in late August.

Justin Thomas hopes to perform well this week, as he’s struggled with form lately. Despite admitting to being “very close” to finding his condition, he missed his third cut in his last four starts in the TPC Twin Cities tournament, leaving him nine places beneath the amount required for the FedEx Cup Playoffs. With a spot in the Ryder Cup also up for grabs, Thomas is eager to impress.

2022 winner Tom Kim is currently in 14th place in the standings, so he won’t be defending his title and will instead focus on preparing for next week’s tournament. Initially, in this week’s field, Lee Hodges has secured his place in the FedEx Cup Playoffs after a commanding win in the 3M Open and has chosen to skip this week’s event. Andrew Novak has taken his spot.

Additionally, 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama and World No.32 Denny McCarthy are among those who have already secured their spots in the FedEx Cup Playoffs and will be participating.

The field also includes former winners such as 2020 champion Jim Herman, 2019 victor JT Poston, and Brandt Snedeker, who won the title in 2007 and 2018.

The winner of the 2023 Wyndham Championship will receive various benefits in addition to the prize money. They will be granted 500 FedEx Cup points and be awarded the title and trophy. Furthermore, the top 70 golfers on the FedEx Cup points list will be eligible for the playoffs, which commence with the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Considering this, it is clear that the 2023 Wyndham Championship holds strategic importance in the PGA Tour season.

2023 Wyndham Championship prize purse

The tournament’s prize money for the previous year was $7.3 million. However, for the upcoming 2023 Wyndham Championship, the prize money remains the same at $7.3 million. The champion of this year’s tournament will receive $1.368 million, which is a significant increase from Kim’s previous year’s winnings of $1.314 million. The runner-up will receive $828,400. With the playoffs looming, top players will be inspired to perform at their best this year.
