The PGA Tour arrived at the Detroit Country Club this weekend for the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic. It was the sixth edition of the tournament, and the 29th event of this year’s PGA Tour schedule. Defending champion Rickie Fowler featured in a 156-player starting field that included Cameron Young, Tom Kim, Will Zalatoris, Min Woo Lee and Akshay Bhatia. And while world No.1 Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy sat this one out, it was Australian Cameron Davis who clinched the title on Sunday in a thrilling finish.

Record purse for the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic

The Rocket Mortgage Classic purse increased for the sixth year running. Last year’s purse was set at $8.8 million and this year rose to a record $9.2 million, with 10 of the top 50 in the world ranking eyeing the top prize as we got underway. This year’s winner Cam Davis takes home the $1.65 million cash prize.

The individual prize for finishing second at the 72-par Country Club this year stands at $1,002,800 with $634,800 allocated for the player who finishes third.

Akshay Bhatia will likely be having a sleepless night after he bogeyed the 72nd hole to fall just one short of Davis, who picks up his second Rocket Mortgage Classic title after winning in 2021.

And now with this one over, which was held at the private country club in Grosse Pointe Farms, there are only two tournaments left on the PGA Schedule before the start of the Open Championship in late July. Even bigger prizes await.
