How much prize money does the winning team get at the "Crypto" Showdown?
Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy take on Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in the Crypto.com Showdown in Las Vegas.
The world of golf is gearing up for one of the sport’s most unusual and groundbreaking events: the Crypto.com Showdown, which will take place on December 17 at the Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas.
Who is playing in Crypto.com Showdown?
This event will also mark the first televised matchup between golfers from the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. Representing the PGA Tour will be Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, while Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau will compete on behalf of the Saudi-backed circuit.
The Showdown prize money
The tournament’s standout feature is the way the champions will receive their prize money, with a “multimillion-dollar” amount being delivered... in cryptocurrency! This is a novel approach, with $10 million being rumoured, as prizes are rarely awarded in digital assets.
Our understanding is that as well as the winning prize money, the contenders will also receive a tidy $4 million just for making an appearance. (Is there any more appropriate sport for ‘green’ washing?)
Regarding the prize, it’s worth noting that Steve Kaliforwitz, Chief Marketing Officer of Crypto.com, confirmed that the golfers are not obligated to hold onto the cryptocurrency – they can sell or exchange it if they choose.
