How severe is Carlos Alcaraz’s ankle injury?

The Spaniard remained calm after Saturday’s US Open preparation training mishap, stating, “I will be 100% fit tomorrow or the day after.”

After leaving the training session he was sharing with Argentine Francisco Cerúndolo on court 2 of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Carlos Alcaraz explained how he felt about his right ankle sprain in a press conference. “I don’t think it was anything serious. In the hours after I stopped, I hadn’t felt anything. The ankle is fine, everything is under control,” he said, smiling. “But we’ll see how it reacts throughout the day when it cools down more,” added the Murcian-born player.

Alcaraz insisted that he did not think it was ‘anything serious. ”I think it will just be a scare, and tomorrow or the day after, I will be 100% fit,” the El Palmar native said.

He stopped training more out of caution than anything else. “I stopped it simply as a precaution. I did not feel comfortable enough to continue training, just in case things got worse,” said Carlitos, who intends to continue training this Sunday. “Tomorrow, I will try to train again at 100% without thinking about it, and today, I will take care of myself.

The young Spaniard’s sensation before the last Grand Slam of the season?

At the current US Open, which he won in 2022, Alcaraz arrives with only one match on the current North American tour on hard courts: his loss in Cincinnati against Gael Monfils.

But that does not concern the Spaniard.

I don’t care. I would have loved to have more matches under my belt on hard courts before the US Open, obviously. But it doesn’t affect me at all. If I look back a little, for example, at Roland Garros, I arrived without many matches on clay, and I had a very good result. And at Wimbledon, the same. So I don’t want to think that it will be the same as in the previous Grand Slams, but I am not worried about not having played as much on hard courts,” he said confidently.
