On Saturday night, north London will host a fight that is as big as any on offer at the moment. With the Usyk Joshua question seemingly answered, and no prospect of the Ukranian heavyweight king making a deal with either Wilder or Fury, the Gypsy King has decided to take a quick fight closer to home.

Tyson Fury vs Derek Chisora preview

Derek “WAR” Chisora is something of an enigma. A true contender in every fight that he has ever entered, his record belies his skill. On paper, he looks to be in danger of becoming something of a high-class journeyman, having shared the canvas with the biggest heavyweights of the last decade or more.

The first meeting between the two men was in 2011, when Chisora, as an undefeated British and Commonwealth Champion, was served his first defeat at the hands of a young Fury via a unanimous decision.

Their second fight, in 2015, saw Chisora retire in the tenth round, having broken his hand in training and looking less-than-best in the bout.

As the two men took to the scales on Friday, Fury was the heavier of the two, coming in at 268 lbs 10oz, while Chisora tipped the scales at 260 lbs 10oz.

Del Boy was pumped for the fight, saying, “It’s going to be electric. This is not a job for me, this is a hobby and I love doing my hobby every day.”

He suggested that he would come out firing and told the crowd to be ready for “the best first round in boxing history”. Fury welcomed the idea, saying that the crowd could “Just expect carnage.”

Priding himself on being more than a match for any scrapper in the world, Fury promised the crowd explosions. “He looks like he’s up for a good fight and I’m ready for a good fight myself. Whether it’s one round or 12, I’m ready for war!”

Tyson Fury vs Derek Chisora prediction

This fight amounts to a tune-up bout for Tyson Fury ahead of the serious negotiations with Usyk’s camp. Very few give Chisora any sort of chance to actually win, although as a heavyweight fighter, anything can happen. It only takes one punch. And with Chisora’s style of throwing bombs from the opening bell, it promises to be entertaining, particularly in the early rounds.

But for the more serious-minded punters, the odds on Derek Chisora are very long indeed, with Fury a heavy favorite to get an easy decision. His boxing skill is leagues above his opponent, and indeed every other heavyweight in the world apart from Usyk. He will use his towering height and mastery of footwork and angles to frustrate Chisora.

With a solid chin, it is unlikely that Chisora will be knocked out, although we could expect to see him on the canvas a time or two in the bout. It is far more likely that the ref will have to step in and stop the punishment that an ever-game Chisora will be taking in the late rounds.
