Israel Adesanya vs Alex Pereira summary UFC 281: fight card, stats and updates
Alex Pereira TKO Israel Adesanya: UFC 281
The first round of the match was a study between fighters that knew what would come in the following rounds. The Champ came out strong and seemed to fight under control. Knew when to throw and when to defend. Alex Pereira came out furioso but was not able to catch Adesanya and opened himself for the jabs by the Nigerian.
The second round saw a more calmed and thoughtful Pereira waiting for his opportunity to hit the Champ. It came towards the end of the round with a nice leg to the face, leaving Adesanya a bit out of it. But he was not able to capitalize on it. He should have gone for the kill at that moment, but it looked like he had reserved some gas for later. Maybe Adesanya did enough to keep him at a distance.
Round three saw a dominant grapple performance by the Champ. He had Pereira pin down by three minutes. Giving him the fight 2-1, feeling confident. Round 4 came, and both fighters did not risk much. Specially Pereira, who looked to be running on fumes, as if his legs were about to give out on him at any moment. Adesanya looked like he was going to keep his belt and have his 8th fight straight as a win defending his title.
That’s until the last round came. The Brazilian came out with all, no reserve on the tank. It was a knockout or go home. And within a minute of the fifth round, a right jab to the face of Adesanya by Pereira was enough to male the Nigerian lose his footing. Then Pereira landed an amazing uppercut that took Adesanya out of the bout. His eyes were lost, the ref gave him an instance as if to understand that this was the Champ, but he should have called it. He was done. The Brazilian had won. Eventually, the ref called the fight, and we have a new champ on his fifth fight as an MMA fighter.
This is the second time that Adesanya has been knocked out. And both times were by the same guy. He is just better, it seems, or knows how to fight him. Maybe Adesanya is already in reserve mode against him, and it works against him. Regardless, what a fight we saw tonight!
The KO for the Brazilian!
Two times has the Brazilian beat the Nigerian!! Wow
PEREIRA WINS IT!!!!!
The Brazilian takes the champ down on a TKO! This man hits like a rock!!!!
We called it, he can empty the tank and he did. Uppercut to the jaw with the right. Then a left hook. And the champ went down even as the ref gave him a second to get back up. But the champ was no champ anymore. He was gone. What a hit to the jaw.

Very reserve fight right now. Zhang seems to go more on the offense with some leg work. Nice hit by Zhang with the leg to the ribs of Esparza.
Boos for Esparza as she runs in the octagon. She does not want to face the Chinese. Who keeps throwing kicks. She lands one to the face and takes Esparza to the ground and has her on a grapple.
Elbows by Esparza to the face as Zhang keeps her grappled. And Esparza gets up and escapes the grab.

The bout for the title comes up! The last event before our main fight between Adesanya and Pereira. But now we have an amazing fight. Zhang vs Esparza two very even fighters, but the edge is for the Chinese.
Poirier to Michael Chandler, “I was scared”
Even champs get scared. After the fight Poirier admitted to Michael that he was afraid to face him. From a place of respect.
This is how you break a nose
Clean hit and boom there goes the nose. After that Chandler tried to get back at it but it was difficult if you can’t breath.
The diamond takes it!
Dustin Poirier! This guy will not give up! This is why he is an ex-champ
No lie this was amazing
This an accurate picture of this fight. Anyone would take this one by the end. This is what UCF is all about people. Can’t write it.
Chandler vs Poirier
Poirier could take this if he wins this round. Maybe a 2-1 card.
Chandler seems tired. And Poirier will not go down. And Poirier turns it around and takes down Chandler. This seems done.
Dustin Poirier !!! We called it!! He takes this one by TKO! Chandler was not able to breath!!! And the former champ takes this one.
We are not lying!
Look at that nose!
Chandler vs Poirier
Chandler with the take down, getting some breathing time. He can only breathe through his mouth at the moment. So much blood by Michael’s nose.
Poirier has to get away from this take down because Chandler is winning this round just by means of defense and waiting to recover.
The ex-champs still on the ground. Poirier has lost the momentum from the first round. The champ taking a lot of damage now from the ground.
That’s the second round and Chandler will take this one. Poirier will need to look for something in that second round.

Legend! Goat! We salute you!
Frankie did not want to leave the sport like this, but if you are courageous like him, fighting at 41 and not backing down, this could happen. We salute you GOAT!
We get it Chris
If Mike is here to see you fight you have to deliver and Chris Gutierrez did just that. Amazing performance by the Guatemalan and Colombian fighter. And what better than to give Mike something to smile about.
What a knee by Gutierrez
We will not say much. Just watch!
Amazing support but no dice
Edgar had the whole UFC world behind him but it was not his night. Last fight for the Jersey native and he leaves the fighting world on his back. That’s sometimes how legends have to go, with their boots on the mud and well put!

Isreal Adesanya sign of approval
The Nigerian liked that Hooker win and approves of it. Like we said, way too easy.
Almost too easy
Too easy for Hooker. Puelles was not in the house, not even in the city. It was a very poor showing.
Alex Pereira war paint
The Brazilian is ready for war. Looking like an Amazon warrior looking to defend his title.
Hooker vs Puelles
Hooker keeps bullying Puelles, who’s only strategy seems to be to lay on the floor waiting for Hooker to lose his step.

Puelles seems done, he is tired with one minute left to on the second round.
