Jake Paul beats Anderson Silva
Jake Paul beats Anderson Silva on points
Jake Paul beat Anderson Silva with a unanimous points decision, the judges scoring it 77-74, 78-73 and 78-73.
In what was a highly entertaining fight, both boxers put in a shift and produced some decent boxing, along with some frenzied attacks and a number of big swings, most of which failed to land. Jake Paul's neat combo coming out of the clinch in the final round sent Silva to the deck, though he did get back up to fight on and look to turn things around.
Jake Paul is 6-0 now and his plan is definitely that he is here to stay. With each win it looks more and more likely that he really is.
Paul punishes Silva
Both fighters landed some punishment on the other, though Paul managed to put Silva on the canvas in the final round.
Jake Paul now 6-0
With his win over Anderson Silva tonight Jake Paul is now 6-0 as a professional boxer. There will be many who continue to criticise him, but there's no doubt he did it against a combat legend this evening in what was a very entertaining fight.
Anderson Silva says he thinks the judges got it right. "It's tough to come in here with a young kid and today Paul was better than me."
Jake Paul says he wants Nate Diaz, he needs to stop being a "b*tch". He also wants Canela.
"Anyone, any time, any place!" shouts Paul.
"Hard work pays off!" says Jake Paul. And he says thank you to "legend" Anderson Silva.
Jake Paul says he wanted it more, and Silva is the toughest in the world.
Judges scored it even more in favour of Jake Paul than many expected.
JAKE PAUL WINS - UNANIMOUS POINTS DECISION
Scorecards: 77-74, 78-73, 78-73 for Jake Paul
That final round knockdown from Paul was pretty solid, left hand and a right hand over the top. Paul probably thought he was going to finish it from there on in, but huge kudos to the fighting spirit of Silva to get back up and not only finish the fight but try and take it to Paul.
That's it! The fight goes the distance! Fun fight, crowd loved it. Paul thinks he's won it. And he probably has over the piece.
Silva has come back well from that! He's bringing the fight to Paul now and lands one as Paul defends on the ropes.
Paul drops Silva! Right hand sends Silva to the canvas. The Brazilian takes his time to get up - he's in trouble.
Final round: Paul vs Silva
Int the final round...
Big right hand from Paul in that round sent blood flying from Silva's nose. So close, but I'd say Paul up by one round, 67-66.
Coming into the end of round 7 and Paul doing some good work. Silva tiring, and his right eye is swelling.
Lovely combination from Paul, though Silva just blocked the final right to the head.
So, so close at the moment. Either fighter could be one or two rounds to the good. Going to be fascinating if this goes the distance.
Silva produces a frenzy at the end of the round, but was it enough to take it? He landed a nice uppercut right at the bell.
Silva dancing around, lovely footwork, but only Paul is trying to fight. Risky tactic possibly from Silva.
Paul needs to make the age difference count here, keeping the pace high. But how much has he got in the tank?
Pace has slowed a little here as the frenetic last few rounds take their toll.
Nice combo from Paul at the start of the 6th.
Round 6 of 8 underway!
Silva finishes the fifth strong and he's probably into the lead now.
Some sneaky uppercuts from Silva in the clinch and they land. Paul looks extremely disgruntled by that.
Crowd chanting "Jake, Jake, Jake" as he lands a number of punches on Silva.
Over half way in the fight between Jake Paul and Anderson Silva as we head into the fifth.
Silva jabbing furiously as Paul dances on the ropes, and then the Brazilian unleashes a flurry just before the bell. Enough to take the round? Quite possibly. All square then, 38-38-
Good right hand from Paul! Silva responds with an uppercut. Both fighters going for it. Silva still bleeding from his nose.
First round was strangely anemic but 2 and 3 have been decent. Paul probably leading 2-1 at the moment.
Paul says "You're pulling my head down!" as we start Round 4.
Silva has some blood round his nose. Paul probably shaded round 3 having been outfought in round 2.
Both boxers landing blows out there as we come to the end of Round 3.
Silva looking sharp and fast, wouldn't say he was 22 years older if you didn't know.
Silva dealing far too easily with Paul's jab.
Silva bossed that second round. Jake Paul came close with some big right hands but didn't land them. We also saw Silva crouch down and give it some spider action.
Jake Paul swings, Silva ducks and dodges to avoid getting hit by a big right hand.
Silva dancing round on his tip-toes, he's enjoying this.
Silva starts round 2 looking much more energised. He throws a few big punches. Crowd getting excited.
Paul licks his gloves to show the punch from Silva didn't hurt him.
Silva throws a punch! A left hand over the top, but it's far from its mark. Took him 2 and a half minutes, but he did get one off.
Huge right hook from Paul gets a cheer. Doesn't make real contact though.
Minute in and Silva not thrown a punch yet. Paul has tried but landed nothing.
Boxers sizing each other up. Silva relaxed, Paul keener to get going.
Touch of the gloves between Silva and Paul; Silva gives a referential bow too. And we are underway! Round 1...

Paul looking to land the first blow against MMA tonight
So far tonight the MMA fighters are 2-0, with Chris Avila and Uriah Hall recording easy wins over Dr. Mike and Le'Veon Bell respectively.
Now it's the big one, Jake Paul against MMA legend Silva to try and even things up a bit.
Power of Paul's punch
Just ask Tyron Woodley who was sent to the land of nod in Paul's last fight. The influencer from Cleveland, Ohio packs tremendous power in his punch - Silva will be more than aware of the danger, so expect him to be on his twinkle toes trying to make sure he stays out of danger.
How old is Anderson Silva?
Possibly one of the key questions tonight. Silva is now 47. There's no doubt he's supremely fit for a 47-year-old and still an amazing physical specimen. BUT Paul is 25. Could that gap be what gives Paul the advantage, despite Silva's superb MMA pedigree?
Paul vs Silva: up next!
With that super fast KO from Sylve we're all set for Jake Paul (5-0, 4 KOs) to fight MMA legend Anderson Silva (3-1, 2 KOs in boxing).
That news will have gone into Jake Paul and Anderson Silva's dressing rooms like lightning. Unlikely they were expecting that to be over quite so soon.
Eight knock-outs in eight for Sylve. The real deal.
Rodriguez was actually on the offensive, but Sylve dropped him with a left hook! All over in the blink of an eye. One minute one second the official time.
Rodrgiuez down! ALL OVER! Crazy scenes here.
Give 'em hell at the bell! And with the instruction from the ref Sylve and Rodriguez get underway.
Ashton Sylve is walking out as a minion from the Gru films. As you do.
Ashton Sylve has seven KOs in seven fights. Bish, bash, bosh style.
Eight rounds this one, if it gets there.
Next up, before Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva, is Ashton Sylve vs. Braulio Rodriguez. Lightweight bout.
Judges had 68-65 in favour of Santiago when the fight was stopped. Didn't look like there was much doubt the man from Tijuana was going to go on to win it.
Santiago was on top and Nieves was really struggling at the end of the round. Trainer made the call to stop it.
Fight's over! Nieves said something to his trainer and he's called it off!
Santiago on the front foot throughout the 7th with Nieves hurting and forced to retreat. He goes back very slowly to his corner.
Not long to go to Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva
Jake Paul getting into the zen zone ahead of the fight.
Nieves looks like he's starting to tire and Santiago has the momentum. He's landed some nice power punches in the sixth round.
Jake Paul catches up with David Benavidez
Benavidez is a two time WBC super middleweight champion.
Nieves did better in that fourth round. Close fight, but Santiago shading it.
Santiago went harder in the third and did some good work. His round.
Santiago and Nieves fought back in August 2016, with that bout ending in a split draw after 10 rounds. Santiago said before tonight's fight he's a completely different boxer now and that he's "gonna knock him out". No signs of that quite yet.
Uriah Hall on Jake Paul
Hall was fired up!
Jab fest in that first round from both boxers. Santiago landing a little higher percentage.
Next fight on the card: Alejandro Santiago vs Antonio Nieves.
Nieves is from Cleveland, Ohio, while Santiago is from Tijuana, Mexico. 10 round bantamweight fight this one.
Uriah Hall calls out Jake Paul
Hall, at the end of his win over former running back Le'veon Bell, called out Jake Paul and said he wanted to fight the influencer. The former UFC middleweight fighter has got real beef with Paul and said "I’m the dude that’s gonna come out here and expose him. If Anderson don’t do it, I’m gonna be the one to f--k you up."
Jake Paul and Anderson Silva are in the house
The two fighters, Paul and Silva, have arrived at the Desert Diamond Arena. Jake Paul looking very serious as he strides into the venue. Silva looking relaxed, he's chatting away and has a smile for everyone.
Uriah Hall says he wants Jake Paul and that if Silva doesn't do it, he's going to be the one to "f**k you up".
Uriah Hall wins it with a unanimous decision: 40-36,
Hall took the third too, with Bell tiring. Now in the fourth the former running back Bell is in real trouble - he's got a nasty swelling above his eye and is running out of steam. He's taking a lot of punishment. Hall goes for the KO in a last frantic flurry of punches in the final 20 seconds but can't land the killer blow.
Hall's fight and that's Team MMA 2-0.
Can Jake Paul box?
There are no shortage of people around who are keen to belittle Jake Paul's efforts in the ring - "c'mon, how could a YouTube personality be any good at the fight game?" - but have a read of this interview in the Guardian with legendary trainer Teddy Atlas.
He gives Paul credit for embracing boxing fundamentals, and also notes just how hard he can punch. "But y’know, he can punch. He can get your attention if he hits you.”
He also says Paul really wants to be a fighter, which is key.
Hall landed a few nice rights in the second round, but never really pressed home his advantage. His corner man says he needs to go after Bell. Still his round, but he should be doing far more here.
Hall looked very solid in that first round and just kept coming for Bell, who ducked and weaved and occasionally ended up putting his shoulder into Hall. The former footballer looked rather out of his depth. Hall's round.
Uriah Hall vs Le'veon Bell up next. Cruiserweight four round bout.
Two fighters making their pro boxing debuts tonight, though Hall comes by way of UFC, while Bell is a former NFL running back.
As we wait for the next fight, and of course the main event of Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva, you can check out Jeff's live coverage of the World Series Game 2, where the Astros are 3-0 up so far.
Dr Mike vs Chris Avila
Judges scored that one 40-36 to Chris Avila.
All over! Chris Avila won that handsomely, but fair play to Dr Mike who took an ABSOLUTE punishing at the end of the fourth but managed to stay on his feet.
I suspect Dr. Mike will be prescribing himself some strong painkillers after that.
Dr. Mike's legs have pretty much gone here, he's all over the place. Just shows you how fit the pros are - this has only been four rounds and Dr. Mike, who has been training hard for this, is in pieces.
Fair play to Dr. Mike, he's still looking to attack where he can, but his hands are dropping and he's struggling. Avila is well on top here, looks like it's going to be 1-0 to Team MMA.
Dr Mike taking some body shots here and one to the head. He looks like he's struggling already at the end of round 2. Another round for Avila.
Chris Avila was more aggressive and landed more punches in that first round. Definitely his.
Nate Diaz is in the house
The UFC legend Nate Diaz gets a big cheer from the crowd.
Chris Avila vs Dr. Mike
The first fight of the main card is underway. Chris Avila on the offensive, but Dr. Mike is mostly holding his own...
Dr. Mike said he got into boxing as a hobby in 2010 which was a dark year, when he lost two grandparents and his mother. He's done an exhibition fight for Ukraine, raising $1.3 million, but this is his first professional fight. He's donating his purse tonight to the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem.
Silva's speed on his feet
Silva is a slippery character in the ring, and his foot speed is going to cause problems for Jake Paul who will be looking to hunt him down.
Paul himself has admitted this is a step up from his previous fights: "For sure I have more pressure on my shoulders. Just being the 'A' side, and the amount of shit I talk I think the entire MMA community is waiting for me to lose," Paul said at his last final press conference.
"They want me to lose. I just have so many more big ideas and plans in this sport and I just plan on being here forever. This is the start of that, and the pressure is on."
Desert Diamond Arena
They're expecting a sell out at the Desert Diamond Arena tonight, so that's 18,000 bums on seats to watch Paul vs Silva.
Dr Mike is #TeamJake
Chris Avila vs Dr. Mike.
The first fight on the main card sees 29-year-old combat sports veteran Chris Avila face social media star Dr. Mike, who is an actual medical doctor.
"I usually give flu jabs at work, but this weekend I’m giving only stiff jabs," quips Dr Mike.

Where is Anderson Silva from?
Anderson da Silva was born back on 14 April 1975 in São Paulo, Brazil. He spent most of his childhood in Curitiba, a six-hour drive south of São Paulo, with his aunt and uncle, who was a police officer. That's where he started learning martial arts, training jiu-jitsu in his local neighbourhood. He then got into taekwondo, capoeira and muay thai as a teen.
He originally fought in Brazil before signing up to PRIDE Fighting Championships in 2002. He made the jump to UFC in 2006, making his debut at Ultimate Fight Night 5 on 28 June of that year. He took the UFC Middleweight crown on 14 October, beating Rich Franklin by TKO after breaking his nose with a knee to the face.
Silva now lives in Los Angles, California.
Silva's deadly knees
Back in the Octagon Silva's knees were the stuff of legend. But he can punch too...

Good morning Jake Paulers!
One benefit of having a YouTube channel with over 20 million subscribers is you can speak to your fans directly. Here's Jake Paul's chat ahead of the fight, where he says it's "the biggest day of my life."
As a complete aside, the top of his hair does have a certain former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson vibe about it. The shaved parts and tattoos less so, admittedly.
Who wins Paul vs Silva?
Absolutely fascinating trying to pick this fight apart, but our very own Fidel Rubio says Paul, on points.
Trash talk toned down
Jake Paul, well known for his, er, boisterous character, hasn't been afraid to get involved in trash talk around previous fights (admittedly there's always the suspicion that some of the aggressive chatter around the fight may be put on in order to boost interest in any upcoming fight), but for this bout against Silva it's all been a bit of a love-fest between the two.
Paul has said that Silva was his idol when he was younger, confessing that sharing the ring with him was "super cool".
Silva for his part waxed lyrical about the effort the "kids" are putting in to their boxing. "And the kids are working a lot and trying to take the respect for the boxing community. That’s why I’m working hard, to prove my respect for boxing more. I think the kids are doing the same, and people need to respect that because the kids are doing a hard job," said the Brazilian.
Paul has said that he's going to knock Silva out, but said he'd do it "respectfully".
How many rounds is Paul vs Silva
Tonight's right will be over eight rounds.
Jake Paul's boxing record
Since he first put on the gloves, Paul has won five fights. The first, against fellow YouTuber, AnEsonGib was back in January 2020 (see Tweet). He subsequently beat Nate Robinson, Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley twice. His last fight was back in December 2021, when he floored Woodley with an absolutely brutal right hand - Woodley was unconscious long before he hit the floor.
Here's the lowdown on how to watch the fight, though even if you do have it live on screen, we'd love to see you back here from time to time for analysis and stats.
