Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight sets new audience record on Netflix
Despite criticism at the end of the fight, the card starring Jake Paul and Mike Tyson left impressive numbers.
Saturday’s fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson in Arlington made history. According to figures shared by Netflix, which offered one of the most anticipated cards of the year, a total of 60 million people watched the fight between the 27-year-old YouTuber and the 56-year-old boxer through the platform.
Pending the full tally of data, Netflix also noted that 50 million viewers followed the fight between Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano and Irish Katie Taylor, adding that “it is possibly the most-watched women’s sporting event in the history of the United States.”
Netflix is celebrating a record-breaking night, despite the technical issues some users faced in watching the fight between Paul and Tyson.
The streaming giant also partnered with Joe Hands Promotion to broadcast the event in more than 6,000 bars and restaurants across the United States, marking a record for commercial distribution in combat sports.
Netflix explain that the official viewership information, including total viewers, will be released at some point this week.
What is the attendance record at AT&T Stadium?
Even though 70,300 people attended the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight, this was far from the all-time record for AT&T Stadium.
The record is held by the NBA All Star Game in 2010, just one year after the doors of the venue reopened, and which was attended by 108,713 spectators. In the all-time list for sporting events, it comes in at 79th.
The Paul vs. Tyson gate surpassed $18 million - double the previous Texas gate record for combat sports in both boxing and MMA, topping Canelo Álvarez’s record of $9 million.
