Manny Pacquiao should be world champion claims Roy Jones Jr.
The former undisputed light heavyweight champion said the Filipino looked better than Mario Barrios.
Manny Pacquiao made a glorious return to the boxing ring a month ago at the ripe old age of 46 with his fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title against Mario ‘El Azteca’ Barrios ending in a draw.
The Filipino fighter said he would like to return to the ring soon, and multiple fighters, including Ryan Garcia and Rolly Romero, have raised their hands to fight the legend.
‘Pac Man’ recently received some advice from another boxing legend who fought until he was 54: Roy Jones Jr. The former undisputed light heavyweight champion told Ring Magazine that Pacquiao should have been named world champion because he looked better than Barrios and that he could still be in the ring if he chooses the right opponents.
“Honestly, I think Pacquiao did enough to win the fight and he should be the world champion right now,” Jones said. “He won’t face the best again, but he can pick a few guys and give them everything they want.”
Roy Jones Jr. knows what kind of boxer Pacquiao will face.
Jones Jr. had a long career in the ring and knows what type of fighters Pacquiao could face in the future. The American said that the boxers who are at their best could beat the Filipino are those who are focused and know their style.
“Those who are mature, as they should be at their age, and still have some youth, will beat him (Pacquiao) because he’s not that age anymore,” explained the former undisputed light heavyweight champion. “Those who struggle to find their identity, who they are, and where they stand, he would easily beat most of them.”
After the fight, Pacquiao was rewarded by the WBC by being ranked number one after a draw with Barrios. This put him above fighters such as Souleymane Cissokho, Raúl Curiel, Ángel Fierro, Conor Benn, and Rohan Polanco.
