Max Verstappen toasts “unbelievable weekend” at the United States Grand Prix
The four-time world champion closed the gap on the two McLaren drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Max Verstappen gave his hopes of a fifth world championship a boost on Sunday with a comprehensive victory at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
The Circuit of the Americas played host to the 19th race of the 2025 Formula 1 season, with the Red Bulls duo of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris leading the running at the top of the drivers’ standings.
Verstappen had catching up to do heading into Austin but the Dutchman dominated the race from the very start, leading every single lap. Speaking after the race, Verstappen was in buoyant mood:
“It was an unbelievable weekend for us. I knew that the race was not going to be super straightforward. I think, if you look at the whole race, the pace between myself and Lando was really close.”
Asked about the prospect of another championship, Verstappen replied: “Yeah for sure, the chance is there. We just need to try and deliver these weekends until the end. We will try whatever we can. It’s exciting and I’m very excited until the end.”
As it stands Piastri leads the rankings on 346 points, 14 points ahead of his McLaren teammate Norris. In third place is Verstappen with 306 points, now just 40 points off the top. With five races left to go, the 2025 Formula 1 season is set for a thrilling finale.
