Mayweather returns to the ring with victory against reality TV star
Before a practically empty London arena, Floyd Mayweather made his debut in England by beating Aaron Chalmers, star of the reality show Geordie Shore.
Retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather dominated his British opponent Aaron Chalmers in the exhibition fight that took place on Saturday at the O2 Arena in London. Mayweather (50-0) and Chalmers fought all eight rounds which lasted two minutes each. The American was far superior to the reality TV star, as was expected, and making good use of his jab, he maintained his distance and control without major complications.
Sixth exhibition fight
The 46-year-old fighter was in his sixth exhibition match since leaving professional boxing and, in a kind of circus show, never intended to knock out his rival. Mayweather flashed his quality, looked agile, put on an entertaining fight, and even danced. In the absence of a finish before the limit, no one was declared the winner.

No audience for Mayweather
The fans did not respond to the American’s UK debut. The stands of the 02 Arena, practically empty, showed the public’s lack of interest. The main fight was delayed up to half an hour to try to fill the 20,000 seats in the venue.
According to the local press, it is estimated that the fighter from Michigan will pocket around $20 million dollars, despite the poor attendance. The fight became the most expensive pay-per-view event in history in the UK.
An outclassed opponent
The evening turned out to be an anecdotal fight by a former world champion against a third-rate rival. Chalmers does not have a long fight history, and only rose to stardom after the reality show Geordie Shore. He began a modest career in MMA (5-2) and last year made his debut as a professional boxer with a points victory in a four-round duel. Despite being 11 years younger than Mayweather, he was nowhere near close to measuring up to the undefeated former world champion.
