Michael Chandler asks for patience regarding his fight with Conor McGregor
Both mixed martial artists showcase season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter, where they are competing as coaches before facing each other in the octagon.
MMA fans welcomed another Ultimate Fighter show this season, especially with the return of the most charismatic UFC fighter of all time, Conor McGregor.
The Irishman accepted to take part in the 31st edition of the series as coach after already featuring in the show back in 2015, where he competed with Urijah Faber, although both men never got to fight at the end of it.
Now, the former simultaneous two-division champ will compete against Michael Chandler to see who’s the better coach, with a much-anticipated fight between them at the end of the series.
However, even if both UFC stars were expected to meet in the cage in September, it’s unclear when the matchup will take place.
Why there’s no date for the McGregor-Chandler fight yet
While many fans were expecting to see both fighters go at it inside the octagon in what is considered one of the most explosive fights that can be made in the UFC, it looks like they will have to wait for some more time.
The Notorious’ return date is getting further because he needs to be in the USADA testing pool for six months before he can compete.
Chandler, who wants to defeat McGregor in his comeback to the sport, asked the UFC fans for more time and remained optimistic about the fight taking place in the near future.
“Man, so I can’t give you much of an update. Obviously, there are talks going on and happening basically every single day. It is a moving target and I do understand the intrigue, I understand the annoyance for a lot of people and I understand how quickly people want answers”, he said on UFC legend Daniel Cormier’s Youtube channel.
“They want answers and they want them now. With a fight of this magnitude, two of the most exciting guys in the sport, obviously it’s Conor and his comeback, the greatest comeback in combat sports history he’s calling it, he’s got his documentary”, Chandler added.
“A guy like me who loves to fight, I love being active, I’m a guy that puts butts in seats, of course, everyone wants answers they’re eager for answers but ultimately we all have to practice patience”, he said.
If McGregor finally gets the green light to fight Chandler, he will be looking for his first win since January 2020, when he defeated Donald Cerrone. In his last two fights, Conor lost to Dustin Poirier, who also got his hand raised in Chandler’s last clash.
