Charles Oliveira is counting down the days until he can reclaim the UFC lightweight title – and he’s already issued a clear warning to his opponent, Ilia Topuria. The two will face off on June 28 at UFC 317 in Las Vegas during International Fight Week, battling for the belt vacated by Islam Makhachev.

The Brazilian has no doubts about the outcome: a knockout in his favor.

Oliveira sets tone for Topuria fight

“It’s a big fight, he’s a great fighter, but I don’t need to prove anything to anyone. This fight came with a great opportunity. I’m going to knock this guy out. That’s for real,” Oliveira said in an interview with Full Violence.

Topuria, who has never lost a fight – and has never even been knocked out – is hoping to extend that unbeaten streak. But Oliveira is determined to be the first to stop him.

“El Matador” appeared calm even before the bout was announced. He’s confident in his power inside the cage as he moves up to what will be his new division. The Spanish-Georgian fighter, after knocking out Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway, is aiming to become champion in a new weight class. His original target was Islam Makhachev, but the Russian vacated the belt to move up to welterweight.

That left Topuria and Oliveira as co-contenders for the vacant crown – a title the Brazilian once held back in 2021 after defeating Michael Chandler, and successfully defended against Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. While Topuria remains undefeated, Oliveira enters the octagon with ten career losses. It’s a clash that fans can’t wait to see.
