“One defeat doesn’t define me” - Canelo reacts to Crawford loss

Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez lost all his belts to Terence Crawford. The American jumped up two weight divisions and while many expected him to be the underdog, once inside the ring it was a very different story – Crawford dominated from start to finish, looking faster, stronger, sharper and more decisive. With that, Canelo’s reign at 168 pounds came to an end.

With emotions still raw, Álvarez acknowledged his rival’s performance, said he was ready to face him again, and urged the crowd not to lose heart.

“Being here is already a win for me. I want to thank everyone who came to support me. One defeat doesn’t define me – being here already means I’ve won, I’ve won because I have my family, and professionally I’ve achieved many things. My respect to Crawford. In the end I did what I had to do. I came into life to take risks, and that’s what I’ll keep doing.

I felt good in the ring, I’m glad to have shared it with such a great fighter, but I’m ready to do it again. My legacy is there, and I’d do it all over again. I feel strong. He was a great fighter, I give all the credit to Crawford. Viva México cabrones, and keep your spirits up!”
