The 2026 PGA Championship gets under way at Aronimink Golf Club on May 14. The course just just outside of Phildelphia is one of a long list iconic settings for golf’s fourth major.

The PGA Championship is a long-standing top level men’s professional golf event, considered one of the four major championships. The Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) organizes the tournament which is held annually every May and attracts the world’s top professional golfers and spans four days of intense competition.
The 2026 edition will be played outside of Philadelphia at the Aronimink Golf Club. An impressive venue that will challenge newcomers and veterans alike. Speaking to sports PR agency, Press Box Pr, Justin Rose’s caddie Mark ‘Fooch’ Fulcher gave some insight into the layout and how it sets up for Justin Rose. “I went up there to Aronimink for one day, a couple of weeks ago, just to get a feel for the place, just to see the changes that Gil Hanse the architect had made. I’ve spoken to Gil, a little bit about it. He is a friend of mine and Rosey’s,” Fulcher said. “A lot of trees have been removed and the course lengthened. The golf course is a classic. I think Donald Ross, the designer, has got an inscription on the first tee saying it wasn’t until he came back and looked at the course that he realised how great the course was. It is certainly a masterpiece.”
The PGA (Professional Golfers Association) was established in February 1916 in New York City with the inaugural Championship held at the Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York, in October of the same year. Jim Barnes emerged as the victor and was awarded a diamond-studded gold medal donated by Rodman Wanamaker, a devoted supporter of the association and a wealthy department store owner. In addition, he received a cash prize of $500.
Golf’s fourth major has a rich history of being held in the eastern part of the United States, with only a handful of exceptions. Its most recent incarnation, held in 2020 at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, was a triumphant return to California after a 25-year hiatus.
Interestingly, while the Mountain time zone has only hosted three editions, the Pacific time zone has hosted twice, with the 2020 championship being the most recent. The 103rd PGA Championship took place at the Ocean Course in South Carolina’s Kiawah Island Golf Resort, while the 104th was held at Southern Hills Country Club in Oklahoma. As for the states, New York has been the most frequent host with 13 championships, followed by Ohio with 11 and Pennsylvania with 9.
Scottie Scheffler is the reigning champion, who won by five shots at 2025’s tournament staged at the Quail Hollow Club.
