Ryan Garcia in trouble again: what happened to the boxing rising star?

The controversial ‘KingRy’ is again in the spotlight after being sanctioned one year after testing positive for Ostarine.

Ryan Garcia is in trouble again. The charismatic rising star’s name has been linked to quite a few controversies over the last months and this tendency seems to be far from ending.

The Californian boxer shocked the world weeks ago when he beat the undefeated, former undisputed lightweight champion and then WBC super lightweight titleholder Devin Haney.

The San Francisco native was a massive favorite but Garcia pulled off the upset after a brilliant performance. However, after the fight, ‘KingRy’ tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine, and the boxer’s B sample results also were positive days after, proving he cheated in the most important fight of his life.

Before the clash, he had been criticized for several bizarre tweets that seemed to point out some mental issues, although the fighter said it was all a prefight strategy.

WBC expels boxing rising star Ryan Garcia over racial slurs

Now, the WBC president, Mauricio Sulaiman, has expelled Garcia (24-1) from any activity with the organization after he repeatedly used racial slurs against Black people, George Floyd, and disparaged Muslims in comments on social media.

“I hate n******, I’m anti-black, I’m the KKK. Hey, let’s go bring George Floyd back to life and go kill that n***** again”, Garcia said on X.

“We reject any form of discrimination. I fear for Ryan’s well-being as he has declined multiple attempts for our help with mental health and substance abuse”, Sulaiman stated.

Although Ryan García’s professional career began in 2016, the fighter has competed for WBC championships since 2019, when he fought for the silver lightweight title when he faced Romero Duno at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas Nevada.

Garcia made two successful defenses of the same belt against Francisco Fonseca in 2020 and Luke Campbell in 2021.
