Ryan Garcia tears into Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis “joke fight”

The boxing world will once again turn its eyes to Jake Paul. The “Problem Child” has agreed to an exhibition fight against Gervonta Davis on November 15 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The matchup feels almost like fantasy – there are 8 inches in height and more than 65 pounds in weight separating the two fighters.

For Ryan Garcia, who first introduced Paul to boxing and suffered his first professional loss against Davis, the fight is nothing more than a joke for the sport. “Boxing is officially WWE,” Garcia mocked on X, ridiculing the announcement of Paul vs. Davis. The California-born fighter also argued that the sport has taken a new path where its integrity is at risk.

“This just proves that the new blueprint is get popular be a decent fighter. Pick fights to win that gives you advantage and continue to rack in money,” the Mexican American boxer posted. “Integrity of the sport is getting ruined everyday. If you are a up and coming fighter I’d just focused on strictly building your name.”

Garcia believes Paul-Davis fight will be at heavyweight

The biggest issue for the bout is defining the weight class. Davis is the WBA lightweight champion at 135 pounds, while Paul most recently fought Julio César Chávez Jr. close to 200 pounds. According to Garcia, there’s no way Davis would agree.

“I strongly doubt this happens, no way gervonta accepted 195 pounds,” Garcia also wrote on X. “ervonta is already small naturally and you really think he will decide to ballon up to 195 pounds. You got to be delusional to think this is going to happen.”

The rules for the Paul vs. Davis exhibition – including glove size, weight class and number of rounds – will be determined later.
