Ryan García to bid farewell with huge final fight
Golden Boy Promotions promoter Oscar de la Hoya has confirmed that Teófimo López is a potential contender to be Ryan Garcia’s next opponent.
Ryan Garcia will have one final bout before officially parting ways with Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions. Just hours after the Mexican-American boxer publicly expressed regret over signing with De La Hoya’s promotional company, a possible opponent for his farewell fight has surfaced.
While many expected a rematch against Rolly Romero—who defeated Garcia last May on a historic Times Square card that also featured Devin Haney—De La Hoya has ruled out that possibility for now. Instead, he’s eyeing another high-profile name: Teófimo López.
López, a boxer of Honduran descent, has emerged as a potential opponent for Garcia’s final appearance under the Golden Boy banner. Garcia has made it clear he no longer feels respected by De La Hoya, further fuelling speculation about the matchup.
“I actually don’t like the idea of a rematch with Rolly Romero—that fight was boring,” Garcia said in an interview with DAZN. “I think there are other great fights we can make, with Teófimo or other boxers.”
Teófimo López demands respect
Although De La Hoya is reportedly interested in making the Garcia-López fight happen, López has voiced concerns about the financial terms. The reigning WBO super lightweight champion recently turned down a proposed bout with Devin Haney, stating that he wasn’t being offered the compensation he deserves.
López earned $10 million in his last fight, a win over Arnold Barboza this past May, while Garcia reportedly took home $20 million. As a result, Teófimo is expected to demand a significantly higher purse to agree to a clash with Garcia.

Adding intrigue to the potential showdown is López’s WBO title, which would give Garcia a shot at championship gold in what could be his final bout with Golden Boy Promotions.
