Alalshikh won’t bow to ‘Canelo’ Álvarez’s demands

The name of Saudi Sheikh Turki Alalshikh continues to resonate in conversations due to the controversial spat he had with Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, in which the Mexican boxer requested $200 million to face David Benavidez or $150 million for Terence Crawford, only for Alalshikh to reply that the amounts he requested were “unrealistic”.

“I think so, I think he took it very personally... but at the end of the day it’s not my problem”, Canelo said in an interview with Southern California Boxing.

When Canelo refused to lower his expectations, Alalshikh declared that the Mexican was only looking for easy fights and that he had wasted his time by asking for excessive figures that were not fair.

“As I said, I’m not asking for the fight or wanting to do the fight or anything like that. Maybe he took it personally because it wasn’t the right time to talk about it and that’s what I said, but at the end of the day, that’s not my problem”, the Mexico explained.

‘Canelo’ Álvarez has remained one of the faces of world boxing which is why so many top boxers are putting themselves forward to face him. Terence Crawford, who has been seeking to make the fight happen since last year, is a prime example.

The Saúl Canelo Álvarez vs Edgar Berlanga bout takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas’on Saturday 14 September, starting at 8 p.m. ET and can be watched on Prime PPV.
