Shakur Stevenson: “I dare Devin Haney to come back to 135 and try me!”
One of the biggest rising stars in boxing, Shakur Stevenson, challenged again the undisputed lightweight champion during an interview.
One of the best and also most controversial fights of the year was the one between Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko last May, with the American getting a close points win, although many believed it should have been called a draw or gone in favor of the Ukrainian fighter.
Right after winning, Haney saw Shakur Stevenson get into the ring to challenge him for all the marbles at 135, but since then there hasn’t been much news from Haney’s team regarding that potential super bout.
Now Haney is expected to face Regis Prograis at 140 lbs in October, but Stevenson believes that the right opponent for Haney is himself.
Stevenson sends Haney a challenging message
In an exclusive interview with TMZ Sports, Stevenson talked about Terence Crawford’s win over Errol Spence in a fight that will long be remembered, but after that, he called Haney out again.
“I dare him to come back to 135 and try me. I’m there. I pray that’s what he plans on doing so I can show the world that I’m the truth”, he said.
However, Stevenson is aware that with Devin going up in weight to face Prograis, a fight between him and Haney seems unlikely to happen, at least in the upcoming months.
“If I’m being honest, I say 20% chance. I just don’t see him being that bold. I don’t think he got that in him”, he stated.
Stevenson, who defeated Shuichiro Yoshino via TKO last April, believes that other than Haney, the only fight that makes sense for him at 135 is Lomachenko.
