The Japanese baseball player, Shohei Ohtani, is carrying on his unstoppable run in the current season of MLB and has a new record in his sights in what is without a doubt a dream season.
He has the most stolen bases so far this season, with 15, the latest record coming on Monday night when the Los Angeles Angels faced the San Francisco Giants.
Ohtani achieved a huge feat in less than 115 games
Shohei Ohtani became the first player in history to rack up at least 40 home runs and 15 stolen bases during his first 114 games with his team in a season. The last player to achieve this was Fama Ken Griffey Jr., who reached the number in game 117 with Seattle in 1998.
Ohtani is the favourite to win the MVP in the American league for the second season after just three active seasons. On the offensive, the Japanese player has 40 home runs, while as a pitcher he has 21 outings with a rating of 3.32 with 160 strikeouts from 124.2 innings pitched.
Will he win the Triple Crown?
Ohtani has a chance to reach Aaron Judge’s AL record of 62 home runs, which was set just last year.
Ohtani could well become only the second player in the last 56 seasons to lead either the American League or National League in batting average, home runs and RBIs in the same season - the Triple Crown. The last player to achieve it was back in 2012, won by Miguel Cabrera with the Detroit Tigers (AL); before that, it was Carl Yastrzemski for the Boston Red Sox in 1967.
