Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz overrules judge at Wimbledon
In what was the perfect manner in which to demonstrate your standards of sportsmanship, the Spaniard made even more fans at SW19.
Spanish tennis fans have been blessed to see arguably the greatest of all time in the men’s game with Rafa Nadal. And although the 22-time major winner is not done just yet, there are already signs from young Carlos Alcaraz that a successor is well in hand.

Let’s, for the moment, put to one side the tennis talent that the 19-year old has already shown. There will be plenty of time for that. Instead, let’s look at the latest example of the young man’s character, something that was demonstrated quite simply on court at Wimbledon on Friday.
As you can see in the clip below, after a short but testing rally with Oscar Otte, the point was awarded to the Spaniard, but that didn’t feel like the right call to him from the line judge. So, he corrected it.
After some confused looks all around, the umpire explained what had happened and the crowd gave him the ovation he rightly deserved. You have to remember that with the current British government’s behaviour over recent years, these locals can sometimes forget what decency and honour is when it comes to those in a position of responsibility. Well done, Carlos!
In the end, Alcaraz reached the last 16 by taking care of Otte with a straight sets 6-3 6-1 6-2 victory. He will next face Italian 10th seed Jannik Sinner.
The Spanish teenager, who had won only one match on grass before this year’s championships, appears to have found his comfort zone on the lush grass as he saved the only break point he faced while capturing his 28-year-old opponent’s serve six times.
