Terence Crawford drops huge hint about future after stunning victory over Canelo Álvarez
The 37-year-old champion left fans guessing after unifying the super middleweight titles, saying his fight with Canelo might have been his last.

The future of Terence “Bud” Crawford is up in the air. The 37-year-old boxing superstar admitted he’s unsure whether he’ll continue fighting or retire after his career-defining win over Canelo Álvarez.
Crawford remained undefeated and stripped Canelo of all four super middleweight belts at 168 pounds. For now, he plans to take a few days off before deciding his next move. One possibility: calling it a career with a pristine record of 42-0.
Canelo “could’ve been my last fight”
Speaking with Ariel Helwani, Crawford said retirement is a real option. While he could still compete anywhere from welterweight (147 pounds) to super middleweight, he isn’t ready to commit.
“I don’t know. Like I said before, I’ll talk with my team, my family, and we’ll see what happens,” Crawford told Helwani. “It could’ve been my last fight. I don’t want to say just yet.”
Crawford has already made history as the first male boxer to become undisputed champion in three different weight classes. His status gives him the freedom to pick virtually any opponent, but that same freedom makes the decision harder. Age also looms large. At 37, retirement may make sense, though he could try to extend his run like heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Respect for Canelo’s toughness
Crawford also took time to praise Álvarez, who absorbed a punishing shot in the ninth round that quickly went viral. The slow-motion clip showed Canelo’s head snapping at an awkward angle, leading fans to marvel at how he stayed upright.
“Obviously, Canelo is a strong fighter,” Crawford said on The Pat McAfee Show. “When I hit him with the left, he was anticipating a right hook. That’s why his head turned like that, it just looked more dramatic in the moment.”
