Knapp set the record for front-nine scoring with a 28 on Saturday and is four shots ahead of the nearest competitor Sami Valimaki. Still within reach, but seven shots back are Ben Silverman, Hendrick Norlander and Chan Kim, all at 12-under par.

At T6 and 11-under par are Robert MacIntyre, Justin Lower, Erik van Rooyen and Matt Wallace, who could go low and put some pressure on Knapp and Valimaki. As we have seen over the past three days, players can take advantage of some holes and make eagles and birdies, but there are a lot of places on the course that can get them in trouble.

Things should go smoothly for Knapp on Sunday if he can play anywhere near the same level as he did on Saturday. Sunday is going to be interesting if some of the players within striking reach can go low and put some pressure on Knapp and Valimaki.

Tony Finau will be one to watch on Sunday. He’s back in the pack at 8-under par, but fans in Mexico and watching on TV will be expecting him to play at the same level that gave him the title last year. Defending will be next to impossible, but as a fan favorite, he’ll be fun to watch before the leaders tee off.
