The Tyson Fury - Oleksandr Usyk rematch to take place in October
Fury’s co-promoter Frank Warren admitted that the Brit wants to return to the ring with ‘The Cat’ this fall.
After Tyson Fury lost to Oleksandr Usyk in their heavyweight unification fight last weekend, rumor had it the Brit could rethink his future and try to fight Anthony Joshua instead of facing The Ukrainian again next. However, that scenario won’t take place as Fury wants to face ‘The Cat’ again in October, according to the Manchester native’s co-promoter Frank Warren.
Warren revealed that Firy contacted him over the last hours to let him know he wants to step in the ring again with Usyk this fall, in a fight where he will try to avenge his loss and get his belts back.
Usyk’s team said on Tuesday they would be loyal to the rematch clause in both fighters’ contracts, so Usyk, who became the first heavyweight to hold four belts, is keen to take on Fury again too.
According to Warren, Fury was the better fighter in the first half of the fight, while the 2012 Olympic gold medalist outboxed his opponent from the eighth to the 11th rounds.

After tasting defeat for the first time in his career, many believed Fury would accept the challenge of taking on Usyk again, especially considering it’s a rematch clause and the Ukrainian is ready for another battle with the Brit.
“People are saying is the best, and I understand that and there’s going to be a rematch, and that rematch will be in October. Tyson confirmed that yesterday,” said Warren to BoxNation.
“I told him to think about it before he did it, but he wants it and he wants it badly. It was a fight of two halves. I thought he was well in front up until the seventh round. At the end of the seventh round, he [Fury] hurt him a couple of times”, he added.
Warren also talked about the fight between both men last Saturday, stating that many fans saw Usyk winning due to his brilliant ninth round and being more active in the latter rounds.
“He [Usyk] slumped back into his seat, got his second wind, and came out. He won every round up until the twelfth round, and one of those was a 10-8 round, the ninth round. It was a close fight, but most people thought Usyk won because he had a more emphatic round with the ninth round”.
“I thought Tyson did just enough [to win]. It was the greatest heavyweight fight of this century,” Warren concluded.
Both fighters will take a long break after training for months for the mega-fight. Fury and Usyk told the media in the post-fight press conference they wanted to spend more time with their families before focusing on boxing again.
