UFC 285 preview

Jon Jones

Jones set the UFC world on fire, going 26-1 as a professional, with his only loss a controversial disqualification in 2009. The 35-year-old former light-heavyweight world champion is back in the octagon after a three-year absence and is stepping up a weight class.

The American thinks that he has spotted holes in Gane’s game that he can exploit. “I respect Ciryl Gane, I really do. I say this humbly, but I study film constantly and I just see a lot of patterns. When he is in one stance, there’s things he really loves to do; he goes to the same well a lot. When he’s in the opposite stance, he has a lot of tendencies.”

Ciryl Gane

Gane is 11-1 as a pro, suffering his only loss at the hands of former team mate Francis Ngannou on points. It was in that display of wrestling that Jones believes that he could see a way to top Gane himself.

In January, Ngannou left the UFC, opening the door for a new heavyweight champion to be crowned. The chain of events was set in motion that has led us inevitably to here, with Gane looking to solidify his hold on the heavyweight division, and Jones trying to make history for himself.
