The stage is set for the highly anticipated UFC middleweight title fight between Dricus Du Plessis and reigning champion Israel Adesanya. The rivalry between the two fighters has been heating up for months.

Du Plessis, coming off a convincing victory over former champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 in Las Vegas, has been vocal about his ambition to become the first “true African champion.” This bold claim has ignited controversy and set the stage for what promises to be a fiercely competitive bout.

The tension between the two fighters has only grown. Du Plessis’ impressive win over Whittaker in under 10 minutes secured his position at the top, and next in line for him is the great Israel Adesanya.

Adesanya, known for never shying away from a challenge, has clarified that he does not consider Du Plessis akin to a “brother.”

The upcoming bout, scheduled for UFC 305, has been billed as much more than a mere title fight. It’s being hailed as a “battle for Africa,” with both fighters eager to assert dominance in the octagon and decide who’s the “Real African champion.”

UFC 305 Du Plessis vs Adesanya: payouts

It will be the first time two African-born competitors compete for the UFC championship. South African Dricus du Plessis (21-2-0) will make his first championship defense at UFC 305, aiming to extend his nine-fight winning streak.

However, it won’t be easy against Israel Adesanya (24-3-0), the former middleweight champion, after defeating Robert Whittaker at UFC 243 in 2019 and successfully defending it five times.

Du Plessis reportedly earned approximately $1 million in his fight against Sean Strickland in January, which was the largest pay of his career. As the current champion, he is expected to earn even more.

Adesanya earned $2,807,000 in his fight against Alex Pereira in April 2023. However, his anticipated earnings in September of the same year, when he lost the championship to Strickland, were $354,000. Considering this, we can predict that the purse for the upcoming fight will be higher than these figures.
