Update:

Corruption threatens the essence of sport, eroding trust, integrity, and the values that unite millions worldwide. On International Anti-Corruption Day and during SIGA’s Anti-Corruption Week, the urgency for action has never been clearer.

SIGA (Sport Integrity Global Alliance) is leading the charge with the New York Declaration on Financial Integrity and Transparency in Sport, a landmark initiative bringing together global experts to combat corruption, money laundering, and criminal infiltration. Together, we can ensure sport remains a symbol of inspiration and fairness for generations to come.

‘Corruption is not just a threat — it is a corrosive force that undermines the very foundations of society,' says Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, Global CEO, SIGA In Sport, in Monday’s Op-Ed. ‘It jeopardizes trust, integrity, and the core values that inspire billions around the globe.’

Urgent reforms to be addressed

Earlier this year, at the SIGA FITS Forum in New York, 80 leading experts united to draft the New York Declaration on Financial Integrity and Transparency in Sport. This groundbreaking document outlines urgent reforms to address systemic vulnerabilities enabling corruption, money laundering, and organized crime in sport.

Key proposals include implementing SIGA’s Universal Standards on Sport Integrity, creating a Global Clearing House for financial transparency, establishing a Sport Integrity Fund, and enhancing oversight of major sporting events. These initiatives underscore the critical need for collaborative, results-driven efforts to protect the values and integrity of sport.

The time for action is now. By co-signing the New York Declaration – which can be accessed hereindividuals and organizations can stand united in creating a culture of transparency and accountability. Visit SIGA’s website to learn more, sign the declaration, and join the movement to preserve sport as a global symbol of trust and inspiration.
