USA World Cup fate confirmed as bitter rivalry set
The United States land in a demanding World Cup pool, the draw having lined up some heavyweight clashes.

The United States now know the road ahead. At the Rugby World Cup draw in Perth, they were placed in Pool E alongside Samoa, Japan and France, a grouping that sparks some hope for a team seeking to establish itself on the global stage.
A challenging mix for the USA
Pool E offers a blend of bruising Pacific-Island physicality, high-tempo Japanese counterpunching and the tournament pedigree of France, who remain one of the sport’s true power teams despite inconsistent recent form. An interesting set of challenges for the team representing the Stars and Stripes.
Huge rivalry drawn Down Under
Elsewhere, hosts Australia were automatically placed in Pool A, sharing space with New Zealand in what could set up a blockbuster opening game should organisers follow the wish voiced by All Blacks legend Dan Carter. England and Wales land together in a combustible Pool F, while Ireland and Scotland meet again in Pool D, guaranteeing another bruising all-Celtic showdown.

South Africa anchor a rugged Pool B with Italy, Georgia and Romania, while Pool C – Argentina, Fiji, Spain and Canada – looks primed for unpredictable swings.
A tournament already taking shape
Though 2027 may feel distant, the structure is locked in: a new round-of-16, expanded Pots, and host venues spread from Perth to Sydney, where the final will be held on November 13.
For the United States, the message is clear. The path is daunting, but it is now fully visible.
