LIV Golf have accused golf icon, Tiger Woods, of publicly criticizing younger players for joining the controversial Saudi-backed league.

Since the creation of the lucrative golf series, a more-divided-than-ever world of golf has come to life.

The new series financed by a Saudi Arabian regime renowned for their human rights abuses, has been luring several of the world’s most prominent players, including the likes of Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and their latest addition, Cameron Smith.

While players making the switch have been offered insane amounts of money from LIV Golf just to join the series, all the converted players were handed immediate and indefinite bans from the PGA Tour.

In an effort to overturn the Tour’s decision to bar them from playing, 11 LIV Golf stars, including Mickelson and DeChambeau, filed an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour. They also submitted documents with accusations towards Woods.

What is Tiger Woods accused of?

The 15-time major champion is accused of criticizing his professional colleagues who switched over to LIV. The documents some of these players included in the lawsuit read that “the Tour also got Tiger Woods to do its bidding and publicly criticize golfers— particularly younger golfers—for joining LIV Golf by suggesting they would never play in The Masters, The Open, or other Majors and would not earn OWGR points.”

In July, Woods spoke out publicly against LIV players, saying that he didn’t understand why they would turn their backs on what got them into golf in the first place. Ahead of the 150th Open at St Andrews Old Course, he added that “it would be sad to see some of these young kids never get a chance to walk these hallowed grounds and play in these majors.”

The LIV Golf players’ lawsuit also claimed that Woods and the Tour were continuing to pressure the Majors to join their unlawful group boycott to exclude LIV Golf and its players.

Woods also turned down a ‘mind-blowingly enormous’ offer from LIV Golf, prioritizing his loyalty to what he calls ‘the only league.’
