Most of golf’s biggest names are resting, injured or on their way across the pond to get used to the climate and playing in conditions in Scotland. On July 11, some of golf’s top players will compete in the Scottish Open and we’ll see Rory McIlroy as he comes back after his disappointing finish at the US Open. But, let’s focus on the guys sweating it out in Illinois this weekend.

With such low scores on Thursday, mainly due to soft conditions at TPC Deere Run, players were expected to do the same on Friday, but well protected pin positions made that a little more complicated.

What’s the cut line at the John Deere Classic?

The cut line ended up at 5-under par (-5). The top 65 players and ties will make it into the weekend as well as those who are within 10 shots of the leader. Jordan Spieth finished at 6-under par and has made it into the weekend.

Players who finished at 4-under par or worse missed the cut. The cut line only moved once on Friday. It started out at -4 and ended up at -5. Some names you might recognize who are going home early:

Big names currently under the cut line

  • Wesley Bryan
  • Andrew Putnam
  • Matt Kuchar
  • Neal Shipley
  • Peter Malnati
  • Nick Dunlap
  • Camilo Villegas
  • Nick Watney
  • Michael Kim
  • etc.

We’ve seen players struggle lately on some tough courses like Pinehurst #2, which is fun in its own way, but this weekend will be entertaining as well to see just how low players can go.
