The LIV Golf Series Invitational is scheduled to make its much-anticipated debut on Thursday, as the first event of the PGA Tour’s rival golf league is finally here. The somewhat-critisized Saudi-backed series is taking place from June 9-11, offering profitable payouts, weekly drafts and a unique format from what golf fans have become accustomed to in past years.

What is the format for the LIV Golf Invitational London?

The LIV Golf Invitational Series features two competitions occurring concurrently at the Centurion Golf Club in London: an individual event and a team event.

The LIV Golf Series will employ a 54-hole tournament featuring 48 participating players- divided into 12 teams of four- competing against each other. Rather than the usual 72-hole stroke play-style event, the players will play a shotgun start in groups of three on 16 of the 18 holes.

This simply means that every player starts at the same time, but at a different hole instead of ending their rounds on either No. 18 or No. 9 as we’ve seen in past decades of the PGA Tour.

The entire round will last only five hours.

Team scoring

Team scoring in the LIV Golf also differs from that of the PGA Tour. Only each team’s best two scores during the first two rounds will be used to determine where they rank. And in the third and final round, that number rises to three.

The team championship will be held during the eighth and final event, which will be a four-day, four-round match-play knockout bracket.
