What will happen with the Roland Garros ground at the Paris Olympics?

The tennis sanctuary will undergo an extreme transformation for over a month. Roland Garros will see a change like never before. Instead of tennis matches, we will witness boxing matches with gloves around the Olympic boxing tournament.

During the first week of the Olympic Games, Garos will host the tennis tournament and the boxing finals in the second week. From the quarterfinals onward, the fights will move to “Philippe Chatrier,” as explained by Stephane Morel, Deputy CEO of the French Tennis Federation. All signs of Garros will be removed during the Olympics, and the venue will host the Paralympic Games tournament afterward.

Boxing at the 2024 Paris Olympics

The boxing competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled to take place from 27 July to 10 August. The preliminary boxing matches will be held at Arena Paris Nord in Villepinte, with the medal rounds (semifinals and finals) taking place at the iconic Roland Garros Stadium.

In June 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) revoked the International Boxing Association’s (IBA) rights to manage and organize the tournament due to ongoing finances, governance, ethics, refereeing, and judging issues. As a result, the IOC executive board created and approved a new qualification system for Paris 2024. This system will require boxers to earn quota spots through participation in continental multisport events such as the Asian Games, European Games, Pan American Games, African Games, and the Pacific Games.
