What’s the cutline at the 2024 Memorial Tournament? Who missed the cut?
Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele are well positioned after the opening round. Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay and Rickie Fowler failed to make the cut.
The Memorial Tournament at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio is one of the most lucrative events on the PGA Tour due to its status as a “Designated Event”. However, if that status has also left you confused as to the cutline for the tournament, then it’s not a surprise (spoiler alert, big hitters Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffle don’t look to be in any danger of missing the weekend).
What are the cut rules at the 2024 Memorial Tournament?
In general, “Designated Events” have limited fields with no cutlines…with three exceptions. Starting this year, the three such events that are player-hosted invitationals do have cuts, as is the case in “normal” PGA tournaments. Those are the Genesis Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Memorial.
A cut at the 2024 Memorial Tournament will therefore take place as normal after two rounds, with the top 50 players and ties staying for the weekend, as well as any player within 10 strokes of the lead.
Hadwin leads after round one, Scheffler and Schauffele lurking
Canada’s Adam Hadwin led at the end of Thursday’s first round after shooting a 6-under par 66, but had Scheffler (-5), Schauffele (-4), Ludwig Aberg (-4) and Collin Morikawa (-4) lurking just behind him.
McIlory carded an opening 70 (-2) and will be looking to make up ground on those above him to get into contention before Sunday.
The projected cutline was 4-over par, which means some big names missed out. Three-time major winner Jordan Spieth was just on the wrong side of the line, as was 2023 US Open winner Wyndham Clark. World number nine Patrick Cantlay also failed to make the cut after a poor second round. A disastrous first-round 80 (+8) gave 2013 US Open champion Justin Rose with a mountain to climb, while fan favourite Rickie Fowler won’t feature in rounds three and four after a disastrous Friday.
Tiger Woods, of course, didn’t even play in rounds one and two despite being the most frequent winner of the tournament.

TV viewers in the United States can watch the 2024 Memorial Tournament on the Golf Channel and CBS, while streaming coverage is provided by Paramount+, Peacock and PGA Tour Live on ESPN+ (full details here).
The tournament, which is due to run until Sunday 9 June 2024, has a total prize purse of $20 million, with the winner taking home $4 million.
