Rory McIlroy is the leading favourite at this week’s PGA Championship in Charlotte, where Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau are both looking for a third major triumph.
Three names dominate the pre-tournament favorite list ahead of the 2025 PGA Championship that gets underway next Thursday in North Carolina at the Quail Hollow club.
Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau have all been tipped as the leading candidates to scoop the 3.6 million dollars prize money awaiting the winner on Sunday.
Northern Ireland star McIlroy has a pair of PGA Championships under his belt along with many previous success at Quail Hollow. It was the site of his first career PGA Tour victory in 2010, and McIlroy shot a course-record 61 en route to winning the Wells Fargo Championship at the course in 2015.
McIlroy enters this week as the only three-time winner on tour in 2025 fresh from his Masters win in Augusta recently.
“Quail Hollow and Charlotte in general have been really good to me”, he recently claimed.
Other tips
DeChambeau has enjoyed consistent success in majors since joining LIV. In addition to winning last year’s U.S. Open, he tied for fifth at last month’s Masters. His prodigious length off the tee is expected to be a significant weapon, with Quail Hollow likely to be softened by heavy rains forecast early in the week.
Scheffler won his most recent start, posting his first victory of 2025 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson two weeks ago. He also is seeking his first PGA Championship, having come close with a T2 in 2023.
Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth are the players to watch out for at Quail Hollow this week.
How to watch the 2025 PGA Championship
ESPN will broadcast the first and second rounds on Thursday and Friday, with coverage running from 12-7 p.m. ET both days. The third round, as well as the final round, will start on ESPN from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET before moving to CBS from 1-7 p.m. ET.
