Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, confirmed that the Portuguese great is playing his final matches with the national team. She revealed that he intends to call time on his international career after the 2026 World Cup, ending his incredible stint with the Portugal national team.

She said: “The most important thing is to enjoy these twenty-something years we’ve lived. I am incredibly proud. I was in Qatar, I’m here. It’s an enormous source of pride. I have confidence and we’ll smile at the end. Ronaldo is confident; he’s less nervous than we are.”

When asked whether Ronaldo will continue to Euro 2028, Kátia Aveiro answered: “According to the information I have, you can say goodbye. Not today, but I think this is the farewell. I mean the national team. I’m saying it from a reliable source. It’s the ‘Last Lance’, at the World Cup.”

She also addressed the criticism Ronaldo has received at this World Cup: “For intelligent people, for those who love football, they have to like Ronaldo.”

“He’s been dominating for more than 20 years. Look where we are, the Aveiro family, and where we come from. Look at the suffering my mother went through... Do you think the criticism will affect our happiness? Never!”
