When is the 2022 US Open draw? Date, time, schedule and where to watch TV and online
The 2022 US Open gets underway on 29 August with the draws scheduled for 25 August, where all eyes will be on Serena Williams.
The 2022 US Open main draw gets underway on Monday 29 August, where Emma Raducanu and Daniil Medvedev will attempt to defend their titles at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows, New York. The big story of the 2022 tournament will be the final appearance of six-times champion Serena Williams, who will launch one final attempt to match the all-time record for Grand Slam victories of 24 held by Margaret Court before retiring. The presence of the American great and her sister Venus, twice a champion at Flushing Meadows and playing on a wild card this year, plus that of Rafael Nadal, returning after a three-year absence, ensures that the 2022 event will not suffer the same fate as the previous edition, which was the first grand slam since 1997 no to feature any of the three or Roger Federer.
Federer absent but Thiem returns amid Djokovic uncertainty
The Swiss maestro will be absent as he continues his recovery from injury and is expected to return at the Laver Cup in September. Dominic Thiem, the 2020 champion, will be in the draw on a wild card after returning from a wrist injury and 2012 winner Andy Murray will also be in the mix in a strong men’s field featuring Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud and Felix Auger-Aliassime among the top 10 seeds. Novak Djokovic looks unlikely to play due to US restrictions on unvaccinated people entering the country, although there is still a glimmer of hope for the Serb that changes to the regulations may come into effect in time. Also missing will be Alex Zverez, who is still recovering from damaging his ankle at the French Open.
In the women’s draw all eyes will be on Williams, but her form in the traditional warm-up tournaments suggests the US great may struggle to make the second week. World number one Iga Swiatek has suffered a dip in form since her imperious form during the clay season but the Pole will go into the tournament as the favourite nonetheless. A strong top 10 of sees includes Annett Kontaveit, Maria Sakkari, Paula Badosa, Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur, Aryna Sabalenka, Simona Halep, rising US star Jessica Pegula, Garbiñe Muguruza and Daria Kasatkina with Raducanu seeded 11, Coco Gauff at 12 and last year’s runner-up Leylah Fernandez at 14.
US Open draws
The US Open qualifying rounds are currently underway and will add 16 ATP and 16 WTA players to the 128-player main singles draws, which are scheduled to take place on Thursday August 25.
The start time for the ceremony has not yet been announced, but traditionally it gets underway at 12pm EDT / 9am PDT, which is 5pm in the UK and 4pm CEST.
