This year, Wimbledon will be marking a special occasion - it is 100 years since the All England Lawn Tennis Club moved from Worple Road to Church Road, while Centre Court is celebrating its centenary. And there is also a possibility that six-time winner Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal, a Wimbledon champion in 2008 and 2010, could meet in the Men’s final.

The list of seeds was announced on Tuesday with Djokovic and Nadal occupying the top two positions, followed by Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipa, Carlos Alcaraz and Matteo Berretini. Last week, the All England Club confirmed that Serena Williams has been awarded a wildcard entry for singles, marking her return to grand slam action after a year away. The seven-time winner has not competed since retiring injured from her first-round match against Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich in last year’s tournament.

Sasnovich is one of a handful of players who will not be involved in this year’s competition. The ATP and WTA took the decision in April to ban players from Russia and Belarus due to the two countries’ involvement in the invasion of Ukraine. That decision also affects Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov and Aryna Sabalenka. AELTC Chairman Ian Hewitt explained, “We recognise that this is hard on the individuals affected, and it is with sadness that they will suffer for the actions of the leaders of the Russian regime”.
