Jannik Sinner, who today faces Taylor Fritz in the US Open men’s singles final, confirmed earlier this year that he is in a romantic relationship with the Russian tennis player Anna Kalinskaya.

Speaking to reporters at the French Open in May, Sinner said, per Tennis.com: “You know, I don’t like to talk much about my private life. Yes, I’m with Anna, but we keep everything very confidential. I won’t say more.”

During Sinner’s run to the second Grand Slam final of his career, Kalinskaya has regularly been seen supporting the Italian from the stands at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.

Who is Anna Kalinskaya?

Kalinskaya, 25, is currently ranked 15th in the world by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). At this year’s US Open, she reached the third round of the women’s singles tournament, before losing in straight sets to Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia. Earlier this season, Kalinskaya enjoyed her deepest run to date at a Grand Slam tournament, making it to the quarter-finals at the Australian Open - an event at which Sinner won his first major singles title.

The most memorable win of Kalinskaya’s career so far came in 2019, when she shocked former champion Sloane Stephens in the first round of the US Open, having headed to Flushing Meadows as an unseeded qualifier.

Kalinskaya ex Kyrgios criticised for “misogynistic” post

Kalinskaya previously dated Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios in 2020. This weekend, Kyrgios has faced criticism for directing an apparent social-media jibe at Sinner and Kalinskaya over their relationship, by posting the comment “second serve” underneath a photo of himself with the Russian during their time together.

The post, which Kyrgios has since deleted, has been branded “misogynistic” and “wildly inappropriate”, with members of the tennis media urging US Open broadcaster ESPN to drop the 29-year-old from its punditry team.

Kyrgios has previous with Sinner: this summer, he took aim at Sinner over the 26-year-old’s positive test for a banned substance in March, saying it is “ridiculous” that the world No. 1 was finally cleared of wrongdoing.

Last month, the International Tennis Integrity Agency opted not to ban Sinner for testing positive for clostebol at the Indian Wells Open, accepting the player’s explanation that the performance-enhancing drug had entered his system during a massage given by a physiotherapist who had used the substance to treat a wound on their hand.

“Whether it was accidental or planned,” Kyrgios wrote on X, “you get tested twice with a banned (steroid) substance… you should be gone for 2 years."
