Why Canelo Álvarez’s trainer described Ryan García as problematic
Eddy Reynoso has shone as Canelo Álvarez’s trainer, but there have been other boxers under his tutelage including García and Oscar Valdez.
Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez is the best Mexican boxer around right now, currently the unified 168-pound champion, and much of his success is due to his trainer Eddy Reynoso.
Canelo shines under Reynoso
Among the most prominent boxers under his supervision, in addition to Canelo, is Oscar Valdez and for a time he was in charge of the growth of Ryan García. The coach participated in Marco Antonio Barrera’s YouTube program and declared that the latter was a complicated athlete to train.
“The hardest one to work with was Ryan. He is a good boy, but because he is very popular in the media, he does not have a focus," Reynoso said. “This guy did not comply. First Los Angeles, then 'I'm going to Las Vegas'. We had good fights, but he's a bit difficult to work with.”
García and the Canelo Team parted ways in early 2022 after five years together because Ryan wanted to find his own path under the tutelage of legendary coach Joe Goossen.
Eddy Reynoso continues to support Ryan Garcia
The 24-year-old is coming off his first loss as a professional after being knocked out by Gervonta Davis in the seventh round at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The Mexican-American fell to the canvas in the second and final.
Before the fight against ‘Tank’, Reynoso believed García to be favorite, expecting him to use his left hand properly. The trainer said that it is one of the strongest hands in boxing.
