Why don’t they have a cut at the Wells Fargo Championship 2024?

On Friday players would usually have been battling to make the cut to be able to play on the weekend, but not this week for a select number of PGA golfers.

The Wells Fargo Championship is a Signature Event, which means the payout is much higher than a regular PGA event and there’s no cut for the players to worry about. All 69 players will continue on to the weekend and will have a chance to try and catch Xander Schauffele, who pulled away from the pack even more on Saturday to put four strokes between him and Rory McIlroy. The $3.6 million is a huge incentive for the PGA Tour’s top players as they prep for the PGA Championship next weekend.

McIlroy is close behind with several players only a few shots off such as Jason Day, Taylor Moore, Taylor Pendrith, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas aren’t too far behind. Quail Hollow is playing tough with firm greens and long holes even for these big hitters, who are being left with 200+ yards into greens after 300-yard drives. Anything could happen over the next few days and it’ll be interesting to see if Schauffele can hold on.

Myrtle Beach Classic

There IS a cut at the other PGA Tour event this weekend in South Carolina. The Myrtle Beach Classic is underway with some top-notch golfers competing in a second-tier event while trying to move up the ranks and gain some important FedEx Cup points and cash while they’re at it. $720 thousand go to the winner along with 300 precious FedEx Cup points. Robert MacIntyre is at the top of the leaderboard after his round on Friday.
